DO WE NEED ACCURATE FORECASTS?

The ability of science and technology to determine what happens "if we do such and such" is what enables bridges to be built and economic progress to continue. Science and technology is useful only to the extent it can do that, to predict.  Any science theory that yields only wrong forecasts is "false" (less accurate).

Its no different with the social sciences. Social theory that is unable to yield accurate forecasts is to that extent likewise "false."

(In the book's Appendix is a list of mistakes social theorists make that so inhibit their understanding of the future that they don't even try to picture it . . .)
